I live in Illinois, which is a bit cold (climate wise), and was considering a turtle pond in my backyard. Right now is the perfect time because temp. is good, and the hot seasons are just beginning. My first question is what is a healthy, beginner turtle, that gets HUGE. I want it to get big so (just in case), no animals like raccoons get to it. I'm looking at a 10-12 inch red eared slider. Also, is this a good pond - can someone check it out for me - Flexible Deluxe Pond Kit - 144 gal. - Black (SAM'S Club)? And with that 144 gallons, I also want some goldfish. In that volume, how many turtles can I keep - if I go by the one-inch, 10 gallons rule, I can only keep one turtle? Last question, with the pond set above, is there anything else I need (like a heater)?
